Do You React to or Respond to Your Impact Startup’s Needs?

If the doctor says you are reacting to the medicine, that’s bad. But if you’re responding to the medicine, then things are working.

  Seth Godin

The same goes for impact startup founders:

🔴 Reactive Mode

Emergencies are always around the corner.

It’s easy to get sidetracked by putting out fires rather than doing the important work.

Moreover, being busy makes it hard to realize that we are not moving forward, just spreading ourselves thin.

🟢 Responsive Mode

Founders must lead complex projects filled with assumptions and uncertainties.

Since things change so quickly, a plan made two weeks ago might no longer be relevant.

Rapid adaptation to the new reality is essential to survive and grow.

Tips for switching from reactive to responsive mode:

1. Set aside time – daily, weekly, and monthly – to reflect, learn, and plan.

So, you’re doing meaningful work, not just working a lot.

We get so busy that we underestimate how important it is to take the time just to think and not act.

2. Let people and tools help you.

Delegate, get advice, automate.

Don’t reinvent the wheel: If there’s already a tool that does the job, use it.

Your time is the most important asset you have, so devote it to tasks that can only be accomplished by you.

3. Keep work at work.

Take breaks.

Make time to take care of yourself and switch off from work.

The result will be a clearer sense of direction and a more intentional approach to problem-solving.
